It’s no secret that the major limitation of the NAS flute is the paucity of tones. This is because it doesn’t have mechanical keys, like a clarinet, for instance, or a saxophone. Devotees solve this problem by collecting many flutes in different keys and registers. (Makers applaud this initiative).

Here we have a pair of flutes, both in high D. One tuned to the familiar minor pentatonic, the other to its major counterpart. Identical twins with different personalities, together they fill in the blanks that exist inside the octave.
